As much as I embrace and support women entrepreneurs, this is not just about owning a business. There is no rule that says you have to run your own business to be a dynamic leader. That is just one kind of leader. Some of you know that I’m of the belief that you can be entrepreneurial without being an entrepreneur (as a southern Baptist pastor I know well used to say, “some of you will catch that on the way home”).
I want all women, regardless of their career or calling, who talk and dream about being leaders to just do it already! How about less talking and dreaming and more action taking?
If you have not already done so and you know you’re supposed to, it’s time to step up and take your seat at the leaders’ table. Whether that’s in your business, at your job, church, sorority, politics, the PTA, or a movement. Go on and lead!
You’re not getting younger (you do realize that whole aging backwards thing was just in a movie and it probably wouldn’t work the same for us anyway…probably just works for Brad Pitt). That calling you have to lead is not going away. You can ignore it all you want, but it’s kind of like being pregnant. Ignoring it won’t make you any less pregnant. That applies to being pregnant with possibility too!
So you might as well just lead already.
Even if it’s hard.
Even if you’re a woman in a male dominated field.
Even if there’s too much technology involved.
Even if it’s overwhelming.
Even if you don’t have it all figured out. Like, instead of knowing A-Z, you may just know A-C. That really is ok!
Even if you have money hangups and secretly (or not so secretly) question whether you deserve to be successful (by the way I’m pretty darn good at helping ladies in particular get over this).
Even if it will take time to create change.
Even if…say it ain’t so…God forbid…don’t say it…you have to get out of your comfort zone.
Even if all of the above. All of that CAN be overcome. Consider this the wakeup call, the writing on the wall, or the sign you’ve been waiting for.
Stop overthinking, waiting for permission, waiting for the stars to align perfectly, comparing yourself to this person and that person, wondering if you need another degree or certification.
At some point, ladies, it becomes more about being self absorbed than fear. Our unique value, brand, and ability to lead is not all about us. I know I know. That may be a shock, but it’s true. There are events that need planning. There is strategy that needs to be executed. There are presentations that need to be conducted. There are youth and others who need to be mentored. There are plenty of people who need to be led (remember leaders need followers).
So get to leading already.
